Roof Repair in DFW: Your Roof’s Worst Enemies
Being a homeowner is often tough. It seems like the work never ends. But if you understand the problems your home may eventually endure, then you can prevent them. After all, they say prevention is the best form of medicine. Well, the saying applies to your roof repairs, too.
Your DFW Roof’s Enemies
- Sun – The sun can take quite a toll on your home’s roof. Over time, the UV rays from the sun will deteriorate your roofing material, especially if you have asphalt shingles. These shingles begin to break down because of the chemical reaction caused by the sun’s rays. Essentially, oxygen molecules bond with the carbon in the shingles, which then promotes deterioration.
- Water – Your roof will stand up against a lot of rainfall but will eventually break down. The rain we face here in Texas will seep into the shingles or shakes, reaching the inner layers of your roof and allowing mold and mildew to grow. Before long, the underlayment will rot, and you’ll have mold inside your home.
- Snow/Ice – Even here in DFW, we see our fair share of snow and ice during the cold of winter. Since most roofs aren’t used to the snow or ice, they can take a beating. As ice forms along the edge of your roof, the water flowing down from above will eventually have nowhere to go but inside the roofing material itself.
Now that you better understand your roof’s worst enemies, you can take steps to prevent roofing damage.
